The short answer

Jamie Chadwick is a British racing driver who won the inaugural W Series in 2019 and retained the title in 2021 and 2022. She has also won in Indy NXT and raced in the European Le Mans Series, and she is a Williams Racing ambassador.

Chadwick has built her career on winning across several categories. She took the first W Series title in 2019 and kept it in 2021 and 2022. Her record also includes Indy NXT wins, sportscar racing and a long association with Williams Racing.

Who is Jamie Chadwick?

Jamie Laura Chadwick was born in Bath on 20 May 1998 and spent her childhood on the Isle of Man. Her current seat is with IDEC Sport in the European Le Mans Series, while her earlier Indy NXT results came with Andretti Global. She is also a test driver for the Jaguar Formula E team.

She was educated at Cheltenham College in Gloucestershire. Her brother Oliver is a key figure in her early career, because she followed him into karting and later raced alongside him in junior championships.

Chadwick is also a Williams Racing ambassador and an adviser to the Williams Driver Academy for F1 Academy.

A driver who has won in British GT, British F3, the MRF Challenge, the W Series and Indy NXT.

How did she start in motorsport?

Chadwick started kart racing at eleven, following her brother Oliver into the sport. She turned down a trial with the England under-eighteen hockey team in 2013 to take a Ginetta Junior scholarship weekend, where she won a place for the season. She finished tenth overall in the championship with JHR Developments, behind her brother.

In 2014 she took five podiums and finished eighth in the Ginetta Junior Championship. The following year she moved into the British GT Championship with Beechdean Motorsport, driving in the GT4 class.

What did her British GT career achieve?

In 2015 Chadwick partnered Ross Gunn, an Aston Martin factory driver, in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and together they earned two wins and five podiums. Their results included a victory in the Silverstone 24-Hour race. That made Chadwick the first female and youngest ever British GT champion.

In 2016 she raced in the GT4 pro class with Generation AMR SuperRacing for three rounds, then returned to Beechdean, sharing a pro-am car with Paul Hollywood for the last three rounds. She finished fifteenth in the championship. She also raced at round nine of the 2016 VLN series, finishing third in the SP8 class in an Aston Martin GT8.

How did single-seater racing begin for her?

Chadwick moved into single-seaters in 2017 with Double R Racing in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, finishing ninth overall. In 2018, with Douglas Motorsport, she became the first woman to win a British F3 race, taking the reversed-grid race at Brands Hatch in August.

Her only podium of 2017 came at Rockingham, a third place in the fifth round. She finished eighth in the 2018 championship.

In the same year she entered the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in an Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT4, finishing fifth in class and sixty-third overall. Later that season she signed for the MRF Challenge, topped both initial practice sessions and finished second in three of the five opening races in Dubai.

Six wins in the last ten races, at Bahrain and Chennai, secured the title and made her the first woman to win the MRF Challenge.

How did the W Series make her a champion?

Chadwick won the inaugural W Series title in 2019, with two race wins, including the first ever win in the series at Hockenheim. In the Brands Hatch decider she finished fourth and held off Beitske Visser by enough to take the crown.

She started the first race from pole at Hockenheim and took the lead early, then had to fight back after Alice Powell passed her. At Misano she qualified second, passed the pole sitter at the start and held off Visser to win the second race. Her season also included third places at Norisring and Assen, which kept her in the title fight.

The 2020 season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 she retained the title after a close, season-long battle with Powell, adding fifteen points to her Super Licence total. In 2022 she stayed with Jenner Racing and won five consecutive races, four of them in America. The series ended early for financial reasons, and she was declared champion for the third time, ahead of Visser.

What were her other series programmes?

Chadwick contested the first three races of the 2019 F3 Asian Championship as preparation for her W Series debut. In 2019-20 she finished fourth overall, earning her first ten of the forty points needed for an FIA Super Licence. That was an important step toward a full Super Licence.

In 2020 Prema Powerteam signed her for the Formula Regional European Championship. Although she was the most experienced entrant, she ended ninth, 263 points adrift of her closest teammate.

She was one of the first drivers announced for the inaugural Extreme E series in 2021. Her partial campaign with Veloce Racing included three races, with second place in the second round and sixth in the final round. In 2022 she drove the car in a shootout at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with Max Fewtrell.

In 2019 she also raced at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring with Aston Martin, alongside Alex Brundle, and finished first in the SP8T class and twenty-seventh overall.

What is her role at Williams?

Chadwick became the second driver to join the Williams Driver Academy on 20 May 2019, signing as a development driver. She remained in that role through 2021 and 2023. In February 2025 Williams confirmed she would stay on as one of its driver ambassadors.

In 2023 she drove Keke Rosberg's FW08C at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which was her first time in a Formula One car. In 2024 her title changed to Williams Racing Driver, and she became the F1 Academy adviser to fellow Williams driver Lia Block.

In September 2026 she completed her first test in a modern Formula One car, driving the 2025 Williams FW47 for 32 laps around the Algarve International Circuit.

Did Chadwick race in Formula E?

Chadwick has taken part in several test programmes but has not raced a full Formula E season. She drove two test sessions with NIO Formula E in Riyadh and Marrakesh in 2018-19, and she took part in a 2020 rookie test with Jaguar Racing.

She tested the Gen3 car at the 2024 Portland ePrix. Jaguar announced in late October 2024 that she would take part in its women's test and rookie test during the 2024-25 season. She placed second in the women's test, behind Abbi Pulling. She returned to the team for the 2025-26 women's test alongside Juju Noda.

How has her Indy NXT career gone?

Andretti Autosport tested Chadwick in one of its Dallara Indy Lights cars at Sebring in September 2022, when she covered over 120 laps. The team signed her for the 2023 Indy NXT season, and she struggled early with the car and the circuits before scoring five top-ten finishes in the last eight races.

She returned to Andretti Global for 2024 and showed immediate improvement, qualifying tenth for the first race and finishing inside the top six in the next four. Her best result came in race three at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where she finished third. That result made her the first woman on the Indy NXT rostrum since Pippa Mann in 2010.

At Road America she converted her maiden pole into a lights-to-flag win in race six. It was the first win by a woman in Indy NXT or Indy Lights since Pippa Mann in 2010, and she also became the first woman in the series to claim a road course pole and a road course win. In July 2024 she was announced for an official IndyCar test with Andretti Global at Barber Motorsports Park on 30 September.

What is her sportscar programme?

IDEC Sport added Chadwick to its line-up in December 2024 for the 2025 European Le Mans Series. She drove alongside Logan Sargeant and Mathys Jaubert. The team runs in collaboration with Genesis Magma Racing, which is preparing for a Le Mans Hypercar debut in the 2026 World Endurance Championship.

Sargeant withdrew before the start of the season and was replaced by Daniel Juncadella.
