Arthur Leclerc is a Monegasque racing driver who came through the single-seater ranks before moving into GT endurance racing. He finished second in the 2020 Formula Regional European Championship, sixth in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship and 15th in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship. He is the younger brother of Ferrari Formula One driver Charles Leclerc, and he now serves as a development driver for Scuderia Ferrari.

Who is Arthur Leclerc?

Arthur Leclerc was born on 14 October 2000 and is a Monegasque driver. His latest racing home is the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with AF Corse, and he is a former member of the Ferrari Driver Academy. He won the 2022 Formula Regional Asian title and the 2024 Italian GT Endurance Championship with Giancarlo Fisichella and Tommaso Mosca.

He is also a development driver for Scuderia Ferrari, a role that does not carry a race seat. His career has moved between open-wheel single-seaters, Formula One testing, Formula E running and sports car endurance, which is a broad range for a driver whose early years were slowed by budget constraints.

A late starter in single-seaters who became a Ferrari development driver and a GT endurance champion.

How did Leclerc start in single-seater racing?

Leclerc's early karting was limited. He won the Kart Racing Academy championship in 2014, but the family then decided to prioritise his brother Charles, and Arthur had to stop karting for several years because there was not enough budget for both. He started racing at the relatively late age of seventeen, after the family's focus had been on getting Charles to Formula One.

His first single-seater season came in 2018 in the French F4 Championship. He won his first single-seater race in only his second start and claimed two race wins in the season. The title went to Caio Collet, who dominated the championship, and Leclerc finished fifth overall after six further podiums.

In 2019 he raced in ADAC Formula 4 for US Racing-CHRS. A mistake on the final lap of the second race cost him a maiden win, leaving him third. His first win came at the Hockenheimring, where he led from pole to the flag. He finished third in the championship with one race win and eight podiums, and he was regarded as an outsider for the title throughout.

That early progress was important because it earned him a place in the Sauber Junior Team for 2019 and then a seat within the Ferrari Driver Academy the following year. That support shaped the next stages of his career.

What was Leclerc's 2020 Formula Regional European season like?

In 2020 Leclerc joined Prema Powerteam for the Formula Regional European Championship, racing alongside Oliver Rasmussen, Gianluca Petecof and 2019 W Series champion Jamie Chadwick. It was his first year as a Ferrari junior, and the team had a strong line-up. He opened the season with a pole position hat-trick at Misano and won the second race there.

His form continued at Paul Ricard, where he won the first and third races. At Mugello he won all three races and took the lead of the championship. At Monza he finished third, ninth and sixth, and he lost the lead to his teammate Petecof. Neither driver won again for the rest of the season, which was decided at Vallelunga.

At the final round Leclerc scored eight points in the first race with a sixth place, but a spin in wet conditions in the final race cost him the title. He described the result as one that left him disappointed and without words. He finished second in the championship with 343 points and six victories, a result that gave him the strongest season of his early career.

How did Leclerc perform in FIA Formula 3?

His 2021 FIA Formula 3 campaign with Prema Racing was a mixed debut. He partnered Olli Caldwell and Dennis Hauger, and in Barcelona he failed to score after poor qualifying and a puncture in the first race. At Paul Ricard he could not start a lap in qualifying because of a suspension failure, but he charged to 12th in Race 1 to earn reverse pole for Race 2, where he took his first win and first points.

He took his maiden pole at the Hungaroring, where he battled Hauger in the closing laps. He won again at Zandvoort after storming from third to first at the start. In Sochi he qualified 14th but finished with two seventh places. He ended the year tenth in the standings with one pole, two wins and 79 points, and Prema retained the teams championship.

Before that season he had tested for Prema during the 2020 post-season testing, and he remained with the team for further post-season testing afterwards. He also raced in the 2021 Virtual Grand Prix Championship for Ferrari, a team his brother drove for in the real world, which kept him close to the Ferrari programme.

The 2022 season began with the Formula Regional Asian Championship alongside Mumbai Falcons. He won the first race of the second round, took the lead of the standings and finished the third round with a hat-trick of podiums. He won two more races after that, sealing the single-seater title with two rounds to spare.

In the FIA Formula 3 Championship he was retained by Prema and partnered Oliver Bearman and Jak Crawford. He wanted to be more consistent in his second season, but the year brought an inconsistent run of results. He won at Silverstone, the only win of his 2022 season, and he finished the year sixth in the championship with 114 points.

Did Leclerc reach Formula 2?

Yes. After the 2022 finale at Yas Marina he stepped up to FIA Formula 2 with DAMS for 2023, partnering Ayumu Iwasa. His first season had good moments, including a maiden podium in Melbourne after Victor Martins and Dennis Hauger collided late in the feature race, but there were also weekends to forget.

The season opened in Bahrain, where he qualified eighth. A promising sprint race ended early because of a ten-second stop-go penalty for a grid infringement, and he later came back to sixth in the feature after an early pit call. Jeddah brought a 13th-place qualifying result and an eighth in the feature race.

Baku was disappointing, and a late safety car restart brought him close to the wall on cold tyres. Monaco ended with a crash in qualifying, and a brake problem retired him from the feature race. His form faded from Austria, and a loose wheel curtailed his feature race at one round. He finished the season 15th in the standings with 49 points and one podium, while his teammate Iwasa scored 165 points.

What was Leclerc's role with Ferrari and Formula One?

Leclerc was a Sauber Junior and then a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2020. He left the academy at the end of 2023, though he was said to be remaining part of the Ferrari family. He was then named development driver for Ferrari in 2024, a role that gave him access to the team's cars and simulators.

His first Formula One drive came at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the Ferrari F1-75, and he drove the same car again at the Fiorano Circuit. In May he returned to Fiorano in the F1-75 to trial spray guards. These sessions were part of the development programme rather than race weekends.

He made his free practice debut in place of Carlos Sainz Jr at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Alongside his brother Charles he became the first sibling pairing to drive for the same Formula One team in the same official session. He finished that session 18th, and later in the day he drove the SF-24 in the young drivers' test, completing 68 laps and ending the session 14th.

He returned to the wheel at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and placed 16th in the timesheets. His Formula E involvement was separate. He was a development driver for Venturi Racing in the 2017-18 season and later became their test driver, and in July 2025 he drove for Maserati MSG Racing at the Berlin rookie test at Tempelhof Airport.

How has Leclerc's endurance career developed?

In 2024 Leclerc joined Panis Racing in the European Le Mans Series alongside Manuel Maldonado and Charles Milesi. Their No. 65 car won at the 4 Hours of Imola from pole, the only win of the season. In the championship fight to the final round at Portimao, the car took pole but finished 12th, and the team ended fourth in the standings with 61 points.

He also raced in the Italian GT Championship in the GT3 class that year. With Giancarlo Fisichella and Tommaso Mosca he won the 2024 Italian GT Endurance Championship. At the end of the year he tested the Ferrari 499P Hypercar at the Bahrain International Circuit in the Rookie Test.

His 2025 programme began at the 24 Hours of Daytona with AF Corse in the GTD class, alongside Riccardo Agostini, Conrad Laursen and Custodio Toledo. The team finished eighth in its category. In 2025 his main programme was the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, driving for AF Corse with Eliseo Donno and Antonio Fuoco.

At the 24 Hours of Spa the trio finished fourth in what Leclerc called the strongest field he had raced in. The same result came at the Barcelona finale, thanks to a late-stint charge by Fuoco. Those two points finishes gave the team a ninth-place finish in the drivers' standings. Leclerc continued in the same championship with AF Corse in 2026.
