The short answer

NASCAR announced on Tuesday that Carson Hocevar and Josh Berry each lose 25 driver points after Sunday's Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. Hocevar is fined $100,000 and Berry $50,000. Two No. 60 RFK Racing crew members are also suspended.

NASCAR has penalised Carson Hocevar and Josh Berry after Sunday's Cup Series Chase race at Martinsville Speedway, the sanctioning body announced on Tuesday. Each driver loses 25 driver points, with Hocevar fined $100,000 and Berry fined $50,000.

NASCAR said the penalties relate to wrecking or spinning another car, even when that car is not put out of the race. It cited Section 4.4a of the NASCAR Rule Book, which covers penalty options and actions detrimental to stock car racing.

The incidents NASCAR described

  • Hocevar: NASCAR said data showed him brake-checking Austin Cindric in Stage 2, leaving the No. 2 Team Penske Ford with terminal damage. He was also involved in a single-car spin that brought out the caution on Lap 198.
  • Berry: NASCAR said he brake-checked Ryan Blaney, another Team Penske driver, on Lap 253 in a similar incident. Blaney suffered heavy front-end damage before spinning in Turn 1, which caused a caution.

Spire Motorsports announced earlier on Tuesday that Hocevar is suspended for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, over his on-track actions at Martinsville. NASCAR noted that Sunday is Berry's last race in the No. 21 Ford for Wood Brothers Racing before he moves to Legacy Motor Club for 2027.

RFK Racing crew suspended

NASCAR also penalised the No. 60 RFK Racing Ford team under Sections 8.8.10.4 A&D, covering tires, wheels and safety violations, for the loss of an improperly installed tire or wheel from the vehicle. On a Lap 225 restart, Ryan Preece's right-rear wheel came off, causing a caution.

Jackman Samuel Wright and rear tire changer James Price are suspended for the next two Cup Series events, through the Wheatley Vodka Clash exhibition race at Daytona International Speedway on 13 February 2027.
