The short answer

Will Brown is an Australian Supercars driver who won the 2024 title with Triple Eight. He also won the Formula 4 Australia and Toyota 86 titles in 2016, and he has made starts in NASCAR's Cup and Xfinity series, most recently in 2025.

Will Brown is an Australian driver who won the 2024 Supercars Championship for Triple Eight Race Engineering. In 2016 he won both the Formula 4 Australia title and the Toyota 86 Racing Series, one of only five drivers in the country's motorsport history to take two national titles in one year. He later raced in NASCAR as well.

How did Brown win two national titles in 2016?

Brown won the 2016 Formula 4 Australia championship for BRM, collecting race wins and podiums across the season. He clinched the title with a round and a race still to run. The Toyota 86 Racing Series title came in a field of 39 drivers, which gave him the double.

That year also brought him the Mike Kable Young Gun Award and the Peter Brock Medal from the Confederation of Australian Motorsport. The Formula 4 title was not settled quietly. A collision in Tasmania involved rivals Nick Rowe and Jordan Love, and Brown still had enough of a lead to take the title with a round to spare.

The Toyota 86 series was a one-make category, so the title said a great deal about his consistency in identical machinery. He had to win races in a field of 39 drivers who were all in the same equipment.

One of only five Australian drivers to take two national titles in a single season, and then a Supercars crown.

How did Brown start in karting and open-wheel racing?

Brown started karting in 2011, at the age of thirteen. He won numerous junior championships and had an 80% win rate in the category. In 2015 AGI Sport signed him for the inaugural FIA Formula 4 Australia Championship.

The first race of that championship went to Brown, and he finished the year with three wins from fifteen races. He was third in the championship and was crowned Rookie of the Year. The result was a strong start, and it set up the bigger 2016 season.

His single-seater route was more varied than the title tally suggests. In 2016 he also competed in the Australian Formula Ford Championship. He missed the first three rounds because of a date clash with Formula 4, but he still finished runner-up after multiple wins and podiums.

Which junior series did Brown race in before Supercars?

After his 2016 double, Brown moved to the Super2 Series in 2017 with Eggleston Motorsport, replacing Liam McAdam. He finished ninth in the championship, with a best result of third at Symmons Plains. In 2020 he was one of four drivers in the Hyundai Motorsport Junior Driver Program.

Outside Europe he represented the Customer Racing Junior Driver Program. The Hyundai programme put him in TCR cars, and he dominated the inaugural Australian TCR season with seven wins in his debut. He then stayed with the HMO Customer Racing team to defend the title.

The Super2 season had its frustrations as well. He blew a gearbox while on course to win the final race at Newcastle, and he finished ninth overall.

How did his TCR results compare across the years?

Brown won the inaugural TCR Australia season with one round still to run. He returned to the series in 2022 and 2023, finishing second overall in 2022 after taking part in every round. In 2023 he missed the third round and finished eleventh.

Brown also joined the 2025 TCR World Tour for its seventh round at the Zhuzhou International Circuit.

What did his 2018 to 2020 seasons add?

In 2018 Brown co-drove with Anton de Pasquale at Erebus Motorsport in the Supercars Endurance Cup, a three-race series. He also finished sixth in the Dunlop Super2 driver's championship with Eggleston Motorsport. The combination gave him experience at the top level.

In 2019 he finished second in the co-driver race behind Craig Lowndes and ahead of Garth Tander, which was his first podium in the series. He also accepted a drive in the inaugural S5000 series, alongside former Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello.

The 2020 season began with a multi-year deal at Erebus, then branded Penrite Racing. The Enduro Cup had been reduced to a single race at Bathurst that year, and Brown and David Reynolds finished fifteenth there after engine problems.

How did Brown win the 2024 Supercars title?

Brown left Erebus in August 2023 to join Triple Eight Race Engineering, replacing Shane van Gisbergen, who was heading to NASCAR. Broc Feeney was his teammate. The pairing quickly became the title favourite, and the team was among the strongest in the championship that year.

The move came after a 2023 season in Gen3 machinery, in which he won four races and took four pole positions, finishing fifth in the standings.

He won five races and scored a podium in every event, a feat not achieved since Dick Johnson in 1984. The title was his first in Supercars.

Few seasons have produced that kind of consistency, and this one came in 2024.

How did Brown's first Supercars win come about?

Brown had a strong 2021, his first full-time Supercars season. He scored his first podium with second in Race 22 at Sydney and then his first pole in Race 23 at Sydney Motorsport Park. His maiden win came in Race 28, after a fight with the Red Bull Australia drivers who pressed him hard.

The win made him the 82nd driver to win an ATCC or Supercars race. He was the first rookie to win since 2013, the year Scott McLaughlin and Chaz Mostert each won in their debut full-time seasons.

The 2022 season was less kind. He had only one podium, at the first race at Sandown, and he was involved in a major accident with Mark Winterbottom that meant he missed the start of the last race at Pukekohe. He finished 14th in the championship.

How did Brown and Feeney compare in 2024?

Feeney won more races than Brown during 2024, but his consistency left him second in the standings. The season was regarded as one of the most dominant for any team in the championship. Both drivers finished in the top two.

The pairing put two Triple Eight drivers at the front of the points table.

What did NASCAR look like for Brown?

Brown made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway in 2024, driving the No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing and starting 24th. Electrical problems dropped him to 31st, three laps down. In 2025 he drove the No. 13 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing at the Chicago Street Race, and he made his Xfinity Series debut at Portland in the No. 11 car.

The NASCAR runs were a side project to his Supercars and TCR commitments, and each start was tied to a single event rather than a full season.

Brown had taken over Shane van Gisbergen's seat at Triple Eight, and the two drivers quickly became title favourites.

In 2025 he also took part in the TCR World Tour, racing at Zhuzhou International Circuit in the seventh round.

Did Brown race outside Australia?

He did. Brown competed in the TCR World Tour at Zhuzhou International Circuit in 2025 and made NASCAR starts in the United States in 2024 and 2025. Those appearances took him outside Australia.

The Chicago Street Race took place on 6 July, and his Xfinity Series debut followed at Portland. Each of those starts was a single event.

Life away from the track

Outside racing, Brown sells used cars in his father's Toowoomba business. He also owns two planes and holds a private pilot licence.
