From Virginia Water karting to a record-breaking Formula 2 win at 17 and a 2026 Formula One debut for Racing Bulls, Lindblad's rise has been fast.
Arvid Lindblad is a British and Swedish driver born in 2007 who races in Formula One for Racing Bulls. He became the youngest Formula 2 race winner in history in 2025 and made his F1 debut at the 2026 Australian Grand Prix aged 18.
Arvid Lindblad has moved from karting to Formula One in little more than a decade. He won races at each rung of the ladder, took the Formula Regional Oceania title in 2025 and, aged 18, became a Racing Bulls driver in 2026. Few drivers in the sport have progressed this quickly.
Who is Arvid Lindblad?
Lindblad was born in Virginia Water, Surrey, on 8 August 2007. He is a British and Swedish driver who races under the British flag. His father, Stefan, grew up in Smaland in Sweden, and his mother, Anita, is British Indian, with grandparents who left the Punjab region for Delhi after partition and later moved to England, where they worked as doctors in the 1970s.
Before launching their own companies, his parents built careers in London's financial district. He grew up in Virginia Water with a younger brother and was schooled in Guildford at the Royal Grammar School before switching to home education at 15. Time spent with his grandparents in Bolton meant regular trips to Hooton Park, a circuit in Birkenhead, and when track time was scarce he used sim racing to keep sharp. He has described his heritage as a source of pride, and he has said he is also proud to be British.
A driver who won at 17 in Formula 2 and at 18 began his Formula One career, with the pace to match his record.
How did Lindblad's karting career develop?
His interest began with a motocross bike at the age of three. He first karted at five at Daytona Sandown Park in Esher and moved into competitive karting in 2015. At nine he came under the wing of Oliver Rowland, who later became the 2024-25 Formula E champion, and the two have remained close.
In 2020 Lindblad claimed the WSK Super Master Series title in the OKJ category. He joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2021, a year in which he also claimed the WSK Euro Series and WSK Final Cup titles in OK karts. He switched to shifter karts in 2022, but a major accident in a Champions of the Future Winter Series heat left him with a broken thumb and serious tissue damage.
What were Lindblad's first single-seater seasons like?
In 2022 he stepped into single-seaters with Van Amersfoort Racing in the Italian F4 Championship, after testing outside race weekends during the year. He scored three points finishes, with a best of seventh, and ended the season 17th with twelve points.
In 2023 he moved to Hitech Grand Prix for the Formula 4 UAE Championship, and took his first Formula 4 win from pole position in race three of the opening round at Dubai, where he held off Tuukka Taponen of the Ferrari Driver Academy. He then fell away in the middle rounds but finished the season with a podium at Yas Marina, leaving him fifth overall.
His main programme that year was Italian F4 with Prema. He won at Imola in the opening round, took a double at Misano and then all three races at Monza, which pushed his championship lead beyond 80 points. A run of poor pace in the final rounds allowed his rivals to catch him, and he finished third. In the Euro 4 series he won once, at Monza, and finished fourth overall.
The year closed at the Macau street circuit, where pole in a chaotic qualifying session was followed by wins in the qualifying race and the main event of the South East Asian Formula 4 round. The results put him in the running for the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award.
How strong was Lindblad in Formula 3?
In 2024 Lindblad first signed with Mumbai Falcons for the early rounds of the Formula Regional Middle East series, scoring points in Yas Marina. Later that year he moved to Prema Racing in FIA Formula 3, partnering the champions Gabriele Mini and Dino Beganovic. He won the sprint race in Bahrain, managing his tyres before passing rivals in the closing laps.
Through the season he picked up a second place in Melbourne, an eighth in Bahrain's feature and several strong results in the middle rounds. He won at Barcelona, becoming the youngest feature race winner in the history of the series, and then at Silverstone he won the sprint race and, after a call to pit for dry tyres on a drying track, the feature race as well. That double made him the first to win both races of one weekend in FIA F3 history.
His run of poor qualifying at Hungary, Spa and Monza cost him points, and collisions at Spa and Monza cost him more. Still, he finished fourth in the standings, was the highest-scoring rookie, and helped Prema win the teams' championship for a third year in a row. He was again shortlisted for the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award.
Why did Lindblad win the Oceania title in 2025?
Before his Formula 2 season, Lindblad competed in the Oceania series for M2 Competition. He opened with three podiums at Taupo, including a pole and a win in the third race. At Hampton Downs he took two poles and two victories, and at Manfeild he collected a run of wins and poles that opened a 40-point gap over his nearest rival, Nikita Johnson.
After a wet second race at Manfeild cost him a podium streak, he responded with a win in the third race and then took pole and fastest lap at Teretonga. He sealed the title at Highlands Motorsport Park, where second place in the race was enough, with Johnson and Zack Scoular behind him. He closed the campaign with six victories and 370 points, and the title added 18 points towards his FIA Super Licence.

What did Lindblad achieve in Formula 2?
Lindblad was promoted to Formula 2 with Campos Racing for 2025, and he said he was filled with confidence ahead of what he expected to be a demanding season. In Jeddah he finished second on the road, but he was promoted to victory after Richard Verschoor was penalised. That made him the youngest winner in the category's history, at 17 years and 254 days.
At Barcelona he took pole, becoming the second-youngest polesitter in the series behind Theo Pourchaire, and converted it into a feature race win for Campos on its home round. He qualified sixth at Imola and was second in the sprint after a strong start, although a slow pit stop dropped him out of contention in the feature, where he finished fourth. Collisions and penalties cost him points at other rounds, including a ten-place grid drop for the Baku sprint after contact in the feature at Monza. His season ended sixth in the standings, on 134 points, after three victories and five podiums.
When did Lindblad first drive a Formula One car?
His first run in a Formula One car came in September 2024, when he completed a show run in a Red Bull RB8 in Houston. Later that year he made his first private test for Racing Bulls at Imola in an AT04, and he returned for another test in June alongside Ayumu Iwasa.
Red Bull requested an FIA Super Licence for him at 17, a step similar to the one granted to Kimi Antonelli in 2024. He made his first free practice appearance at the British Grand Prix in 2025, setting the fourteenth-fastest time for Red Bull in place of Yuki Tsunoda. He drove again in Mexico City, standing in for Max Verstappen, and was sixth, impressing the team with his pace and technical feedback. He also drove in the Abu Dhabi practice session, where he ended up fifteenth. After that he took part in the post-season running for Racing Bulls, but a mechanical problem cut his running short. In June 2025 he also raced three on-foot Leeds United players at Elland Road, in an RB7.
How did Lindblad's Racing Bulls debut go?
In December 2025 Racing Bulls, the Red Bull sister outfit, signed Lindblad to replace the promoted Isack Hadjar, and he was to race alongside Liam Lawson under the new power unit and chassis rules for 2026. Aged 18, he ranked fourth-youngest in Formula One history and became the youngest British driver, ahead of Oliver Bearman. He admitted he was not sure he was entirely ready, but said he was used to being thrown in at the deep end.
His debut season opened strongly. He qualified ninth in Australia, passed the frontrunners to reach the podium positions, and settled for eighth at the flag, while Liam Lawson dropped outside the points. The VCARB 03 emerged as an upper-midfield car, which made those early results encouraging. He was twelfth in China on an alternate strategy, and he placed fourteenth in Japan and at Miami before failing to start in Canada because of a gearbox problem. Points returned with seventh at Monaco, ninth at Barcelona and tenth in Austria.
At Silverstone, his home race, he finished seventh. He added ninth in Belgium, tenth in Hungary, twelfth in the Netherlands, eighth at Monza and ninth at Madrid.
What is Lindblad's place in the sport?
Lindblad is one of the most closely watched young drivers in the sport, and his route through the Red Bull junior programme has been among the quickest in recent memory. His record in Formula 2 and Formula 3 shows he can win at the highest levels of junior racing.
He is also the sole Formula One representative for Indian fans, a status that matters to supporters since Indian drivers have not raced in Formula One since Narain Karthikeyan in 2012. He has said he would welcome the return of the Indian Grand Prix.
