The short answer

Chery's Tiggo 8 is a mid-size, usually three-row crossover that first appeared in 2018. Its family includes the Plus, Pro, Fulwin T8 hybrid and the Lepas L8 export twin of the second generation. It is sold under different names in most markets.

Chery's Tiggo 8 is a three-row crossover family that began as one turbocharged petrol model in 2018 and has since spread into Plus, Pro, hybrid and export versions. It sits between the Tiggo 7 and the Tiggo 9 in Chery's line-up, and it has been sold in a long list of markets under several names.

What is the Chery Tiggo 8?

Chery's mid-size crossover, the Tiggo 8, debuted in 2018 and is most often a three-row car. Over time it gained Plus and Pro trims, hybrid drivetrains, a Fulwin T8 plug-in and a second generation sold overseas as the Lepas L8 in several markets.

The production car was revealed at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, where it was positioned above the smaller Tiggo 7. Internally the first generation carried the codename T18, and Chery built it on a unibody chassis.

Front suspension uses MacPherson struts and the rear uses a multi-link arrangement. The first car ran 18-inch wheels and offered a ground clearance of 200 mm (7.9 in).

In October 2020 Chery unveiled the Tiggo 8 Plus for the Chinese market as an upmarket version. Overseas it became the Tiggo 8 Pro or Tiggo 8 Pro Max, while a separately styled Tiggo 8 Pro reached China in May 2022 and is not the same car as the export Pro.

A three-row Chery crossover that spawned Plus, Pro, hybrid and export twins across many markets.

How did the first generation's engines work?

The launch engine was a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four borrowed from the Tiggo 7, producing 108 kW (145 hp; 147 PS) and a torque of 210 N-m (155 lb-ft). It drove the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Chery then added stronger options so the range covered more than one power level.

For the 2019 model year Chery added a 1.6-litre direct-injection turbo with a seven-speed dual-clutch, badged 290T, making 145 kW (194 hp; 197 PS), with 290 N-m (214 lb-ft) of torque. For 2021 a 2.0-litre Kunpeng unit badged 390T arrived, making 187 kW (251 hp; 254 PS), with a peak of 390 N-m (288 lb-ft).

In late 2022 Chery launched a two-row five-seat model alongside the seven-seat car. Its 1.5-litre SQRE4T15C turbo produces 115 kW (154 hp; 156 PS), and torque peaks at 230 N-m (170 lb-ft).

What did the Tiggo 8 Plus change?

The Tiggo 8 Plus added new front and rear ends in the Life In Motion 3.0 design language. It runs 22 mm (0.9 in) further in length and 1 mm (0.04 in) taller than the regular car, and comes as a five-, six- or seven-seater.

Inside, dual 12.3 in (31.2 cm) displays sat over the LION4.0 infotainment system, and an 8-speaker surround stereo from Sony completed the cabin. Alloy wheels grew to 18 and 19 inches on the Plus.

Engine choices for the Plus included the 1.6-litre turbo with a seven-speed DCT. A mild hybrid 1.5-litre with 48V electric power delivered 116 kW (156 hp; 158 PS) through a CVT, with 230 N-m (170 lb-ft) of torque, and a Kunpeng edition used the 2.0-litre 390T.

How did the 2022 and 2024 updates change the car?

The 2022 Chinese Tiggo 8 Pro brought restyled front and rear designs and an updated interior, with a 2.0-litre TGDI turbo or a 1.6-litre TGDI plus Kunpeng DHT hybrid. In April 2024 Chery introduced a redesigned Tiggo 8 with new fascias, flush door handles and a new interior.

The 2024 Beijing show car was marketed as the New Tiggo 8 and later renamed the All-New Tiggo 8 Plus. Chery also showed an export version at its Wuhu conference, and that car became the base for the domestic Fulwin T8.

Chery's larger Tiggo 8L arrived in 2024 between the Tiggo 8 and the Tiggo 9. It is exported as the Tiggo 9, and it was renamed Tiggo 9X in China in September 2025.

What is the Fulwin T8 plug-in hybrid?

The Fulwin T8 is the C-DM plug-in hybrid version of the second-generation Tiggo 8 Plus, unveiled at Auto Guangzhou 2024 and sold in China from February 2025. It pairs a 1.5-litre SQRH4J15 engine rated at 154 hp (115 kW) with a lithium iron phosphate battery.

The battery is either 18.46 kWh or 18.66 kWh and gives a pure electric range of 90 km. Chery declares a fuel consumption of 1.30L/100km and a top speed of 175 km/h, and the car uses a Bosch anti-lock braking system.

The Fulwin T8 draws its look largely from the export second-generation Tiggo 8 Plus. Chery sells it under the Fulwin NEV product series rather than under the Tiggo name.

What is the second-generation Tiggo 8?

The second-generation Tiggo 8 was announced in China on 27 September 2025 as a two-row, five-seat model. Its export twin, the Lepas L8, was introduced in April 2025 as the first model of Chery's export-only Lepas marque.

China markets the car as the fifth-generation Tiggo 8, with Tiger Variant and Leopard Variant front fascia options. The first production Lepas L8 rolled off the line in April 2025, ahead of its sales in global markets.

Overseas, the L8 was first shown in July 2025 at the 32nd Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. Indonesian sales began on 27 July 2026 with the sole plug-in hybrid variant.

Which markets sell the Tiggo 8?

The Tiggo 8 is sold under several names, including Tiggo 8 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro Max and plain Tiggo 8, depending on the market and specification. The Chinese Pro is not the same car as the global Pro, so the names need checking market by market.

Chery sells the family in Australia, Europe, Spain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia and South Africa. Each market has its own launch dates, trim names and powertrain mix, which is why the same car can look quite different from one country to the next.

How is the Tiggo 8 sold in Australia?

In Australia the Tiggo 8 Pro Max arrived in February 2024, with prices announced and sales starting in May 2024. It comes in Urban, Elite and Ultimate grades, all with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a seven-speed DCT.

The front wheels do the driving as standard on the Urban and Elite grades, and only the Ultimate is offered with all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid Super Hybrid followed in June 2025 with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, available on the Urban and Ultimate grades, and customer deliveries began in July 2025.

Is the Tiggo 8 sold in Europe?

Yes. The Tiggo 8 made its European debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2025 and became the first Chery model marketed in the United Kingdom. European buyers can choose a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol or a 1.5-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid sold as Super Hybrid.

The non-hybrid cars take their exterior styling from the Chinese Tiggo 8 Plus II, while the Super Hybrid versions use the exterior and interior styling of the 2024 export facelift.

In Spain the company Ebro sells the car as the Ebro S800, following a partnership with Chery to assemble its vehicles in Barcelona. It was unveiled at the Madrid Car Experience in May 2024 with the styling of the export-spec 2024 facelift.

How is the Tiggo 8 sold in Southeast Asia?

Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand each received the Tiggo 8 after Chery returned to those markets, and Indonesia and Malaysia assemble their cars locally. Indonesia took the first model on 28 January 2022, while Malaysia followed with the Pro in October 2022.

The Indonesian line-up began with the Pro, launched on 23 November 2022 alongside the Tiggo 7 Pro as Chery's first models there in six years. The Pro Max arrived in February 2024 with front- or all-wheel drive, and the regular Tiggo 8 with a 1.6-litre engine went on sale on 8 October 2024 in Comfort and Premium variants.

The Tiggo 8 CSH plug-in hybrid went on sale in Indonesia on 15 May 2025, and Comfort FWD and Premium AWD variants followed in November 2025. All Indonesian models are assembled at the Handal Indonesia Motor facility in Bekasi, West Java.

In Malaysia the Pro came in a single Premium variant with the 2.0-litre engine and front-wheel drive, launched alongside the Omoda 5 in July 2023. The CSH plug-in arrived on 3 October 2025, and the regular Tiggo 8 with the 1.6-litre engine followed in January 2026. Inokom builds the Malaysian cars at Kulim in Kedah.

Thailand received the Tiggo 8 CSH on 20 January 2026 in 2WD Esteem and 4WD Elite variants, and both are plug-in hybrids powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

How did the Tiggo 8 reach Mexico, Russia and South Africa?

Mexico sold the Pro as the Chirey Tiggo 8 Pro Max from July 2022, Russia launched the Tiggo 8 in May 2020, and South Africa introduced the Pro in February 2022. Each market added Pro Max and plug-in hybrid versions later.

The Mexican cars came in Luxury and Premium trims. Front-wheel drive was standard on Luxury and all-wheel drive on Premium, and all used the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The Pro e+ plug-in hybrid joined in July 2023, and the model moved to Chery Super Hybrid technology in October 2025.

In Russia the Tiggo 8 Pro arrived in March 2021 with a 2.0-litre or 1.6-litre engine, and the Pro Max with standard all-wheel drive followed on 22 April 2022. The Pro e+ plug-in hybrid was launched in October 2023, and from 2025 the model was rebadged as the Tenet T8 by Tenet.

South African Pro models came in Distinctive and Executive variants, both with a 1.6-litre engine. The Pro Max, with a 2.0-litre unit, was launched in December 2022. The CSH plug-in arrived on 11 August 2025, the LS trim replaced Executive+ in August 2026, and a single Apex I trim of the Tiggo 8 followed in September 2026.

Did the Tiggo 8 compete in motorsport?

Only one event is on record. In 2024 the Tiggo 8 took part in the Taklimakan Rally in the T2 Production Vehicle class, and no result is recorded for it. Production-class rallying is a modest proof of durability rather than a headline achievement.
