The short answer

Porsche has announced updated PCM infotainment for four model lines: the 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne. The new hardware is much quicker than its predecessor, and the software adds an AI-based Voice Pilot and a new interface. It is being phased into newly built cars rather than launched on a single date.

Porsche is bringing a new generation of its Porsche Communication Management infotainment to the 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne, built on hardware that the company says has up to five times the computing power of the system it replaces. Alongside it come a redesigned interface, a voice assistant driven by a large language model and, for the first time, Apple Music inside the car.

Oliver Seifert, Porsche's Head of Infotainment and Connect, says the combination of the new chip architecture, the new operating language and a wider digital ecosystem gives the company a more capable platform that it can keep developing.

Faster hardware

Everything starts with a system-on-chip architecture. Porsche says it shortens start-up and loading times and lets several applications run in parallel, with apps staying active in the background so they return quickly when the driver switches between them. The company also describes the platform as the base for future functions, and says comprehensive over-the-air updates will let software and selected features keep evolving after a car has been delivered.

The Cayenne Electric look, on more cars

Porsche Digital Interaction takes the design and interaction language introduced on the Cayenne Electric and applies it to the 911, Taycan, Panamera and the combustion and hybrid versions of the Cayenne. A freely rotatable 3D model of the car, shown in its actual exterior colour, acts as a way into selected vehicle functions and settings. Five selectable themes and configurable widgets let owners tailor the screens, while clear layouts and one operating logic run across the various displays.

Navigation Plus gets a new 3D map display, with online map data and real-time traffic information feeding route guidance. In fully electric cars the Porsche Charging Planner plans charging stops and takes battery preconditioning into account.

Voice Pilot is now powered by AI. Because it is based on a large language model, Porsche says it can process natural language, requests with several steps and follow-up questions. It can control navigation, selected vehicle functions, media and selected apps.

Apps and audio

Porsche describes its approach as a blended ecosystem, joining its own services with the driver's smartphone and third-party apps through standardised interfaces. The App Center lets owners choose, download and update Porsche and third-party apps directly in the car. The range covers audio and video streaming, navigation, and parking and charging services, and it is still being expanded.

Apple Music arrives in the App Center for the first time. With the Bose and Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound Systems it supports Dolby Atmos, and other compatible apps can use Dolby Atmos through Apple CarPlay if they support it. Apple Music with Spatial Audio is offered in selected Connect markets and needs both a subscription and a Dolby Atmos-capable sound system.

Smartphone integration goes deeper too, with map display in the instrument cluster and, in selected markets, EV routing with battery preconditioning.

When it arrives

The new generation, including Porsche Digital Interaction, will be phased in gradually on newly built 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne models. Availability will vary with market, model, production date and equipment. No pricing or start dates have been given.
