The short answer

Wards has included the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid's e-POWER powertrain in its 2026 top-10 engines roundup, Nissan says, and it is the 25th Nissan Group vehicle to make the list. The Rogue Hybrid SR is estimated at 38 mpg combined. Dealers receive the car this fall, and the SV grade starts at $35,490.

Nissan's e-POWER hybrid system has been named to the 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems list. The honour goes to the powertrain in the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid, which Nissan says is the first US-market car to use e-POWER. Nissan also says this is the 25th time a Nissan Group vehicle has appeared on the annual list.

How the system works

Nissan describes e-POWER as a hybrid in which a petrol engine runs only as a generator and switches off entirely once the battery holds enough charge. Two electric motors drive the wheels directly, and with no transmission to shift, the company says acceleration is smoother and more responsive. Nissan tuned the system for North American roads, speeds and driving habits.

The company claims the Rogue Hybrid is the only vehicle in its class with a 100% electric drivetrain. It also points to a first-in-class Smooth Stop feature, which eases brake pressure at the end of a stop, and e-Pedal, which lets drivers stop the car by lifting off the accelerator.

Economy and launch timing

Nissan estimates the Rogue Hybrid SR at 41 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 38 mpg combined. The company says the figures are estimates and that real mileage will vary with conditions.

Highway36 mpg
Combined38 mpg

Dealers receive the car this fall, starting with the all-wheel-drive SR in the SR Technology Package, in limited numbers. The full SV, SR and Platinum range follows in early 2027. Manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which exclude destination charges, tax and options, start at $35,490 for the SV grade.

Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan Americas' senior vice president and chief product and planning officer, said the Rogue Hybrid combines the functions and technology of the best-selling Rogue with a hybrid system that is smoother, quicker and quieter than rivals.

Nissan says it has developed e-POWER over three generations, with nearly 2 million e-POWER equipped vehicles sold in 68 countries since 2016. It expects the full SV, SR and Platinum range to follow in early 2027, after the limited SR launch.
