Liam Lawson has been disqualified from Qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix after a technical breach on his Racing Bulls car, Formula 1 said. He will line up at the back of the grid.
What the technical report said
Lawson had set the eighth-fastest time, ahead of team mate Arvid Lindblad. He was already due to lose a place through a one-place grid penalty for an earlier incident with Red Bull's Max Verstappen in second practice, which would have put him ninth.
After the session he was referred to the stewards. The FIA Technical Delegate noted that he was below the minimum MGU-K power requirement straight after crossing the line on his quickest Q2 run. The report added that his power demand and the ERS-K electrical DC power were cut at faster rates than the rules allow.
Lawson was summoned, and the stewards ruled that the infringement warranted disqualification.
What we know so far
- Lawson qualified eighth, ahead of Lindblad.
- He carried a one-place penalty for the FP2 incident with Verstappen.
- The breach concerned the MGU-K power requirement on his fastest Q2 lap.
- His grid slot is now last.
