The Sri Lankan driver stays in F3 for a second year and says he wants his first win after a maiden podium this season.
Yevan David will race for Van Amersfoort Racing in the 2027 FIA Formula 3 Championship, FIA Formula 3 confirmed. The Sri Lankan driver first ran with the team at the post-season test in Barcelona and says his aim next year is a first F3 victory.
Yevan David will return for another season in FIA Formula 3 after signing with Van Amersfoort Racing for 2027. The Sri Lankan driver had his first days of on-track running with the team at the final post-season test of the year in Barcelona.
David said he was "very, very excited" about the move and called the past year one of the most complete he has had in a long time. He said he likes the team and gets on well with the crew around him, including mechanics from Scandinavia and an engineer from the UK.
New tracks on the 2027 calendar
David singled out the calendar as a reason for his enthusiasm. He said he is looking forward to going to the new venues of Jeddah, Montreal and Istanbul.
Second-year experience
David will have a full season of F3 behind him next year, and he believes that will make a clear difference. He said it helps him understand how sessions evolve, how the track changes over a weekend and how to put a lap together in qualifying under pressure. In his words, he is no longer "shooting in the dark" as he was in his rookie season.
Targeting a first F3 win
David has already taken a maiden podium in F3 and now has his sights set on a first victory. He said he thinks about winning when he wakes up and when he goes to sleep, but that his focus is on the process behind it rather than on a particular qualifying lap time.
Looking ahead to the off-season, he said the hard work has only just begun. He plans to study this year's races, spend time on the simulator at home and at the team's factory, and learn to cope with pressure even better. He said everything in November and December will be directed at that goal.
