The short answer

Nissan has launched a retro-styled Special Edition for the 2027 Pathfinder, marking 40 years since the SUV debuted in 1987. Pricing begins at $47,390 for front-wheel drive and $49,390 with Intelligent AWD 2. The wider range reaches US showrooms in November, the company says.

The 2027 Pathfinder gains a Special Edition built to mark four decades since the SUV first arrived as a 1987 model. Nissan prices it from $47,390 with front-wheel drive, or $49,390 with Intelligent AWD 2.

The trim looks back at the first-generation car. Its two-tone interior mixes black and burgundy TailorFit materials, echoing the burgundy cloth seats of the original, and red exterior accents include PATHFINDER lettering on the liftgate. Extras include black 20-inch wheels and a panoramic moonroof, plus second-row captain's chairs, rear door sunshades and a 12-speaker Bose stereo.

Marco Fioravanti, vice president of product planning for Nissan U.S. and Canada, said the Special Edition links the nameplate with the buyers and adventures that shaped its history.

Pricing and timing

2027 PathfinderStarting MSRP
Standard Pathfinder$39,990
Special Edition, front-wheel drive$47,390
Special Edition, Intelligent AWD 2$49,390

The MSRP figures exclude destination and handling charges, tax, title, licence and options, and dealers set the actual price. The wider range is due at dealerships in November.

Engine and towing

The 2027 Pathfinder runs a 3.5-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 284 horsepower, and torque output is rated at 259 lb-ft.

Standard towing capacity is 3,500 pounds. A tow hitch receiver takes the Special Edition up to 6,000 pounds, which Nissan calls class-leading, depending on configuration.

Nissan positions the Rock Creek grade for buyers who want more adventure. It adds all-terrain tyres, off-road tuned suspension, LED fog lights and Lava Red interior stitching, the company says.

Sales and build

Nissan says Pathfinder had its best-ever quarterly volume during the second quarter of 2026, and it sold its two millionth Pathfinder in September. Third-quarter retail sales were the second-best third-quarter performance the model has recorded.

The SUV has been assembled at Nissan's Smyrna plant in Tennessee since 2004. US-built vehicles made up close to 60% of the combined Nissan and INFINITI total through September, and the company aims for 80% by 2030.

Recent recognition includes a Best New Vehicle for Teens title from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Consumer Reports, plus a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating. Nissan also says about nine in ten Pathfinders sold over the past decade are still in use.
