The short answer

Hyundai Motor unveiled the Elantra N Monochrome in Seoul on 19 October, a restrained edition of its performance sedan. It uses a monochrome theme across selected exterior and interior parts, with carbon-fibre components and Alcantara trim. Korea comes first with sales in late October, followed by Canada and Australia.

Hyundai Motor has unveiled the Elantra N Monochrome, a new edition of its performance sedan that takes a restrained approach to the car's look. The company says it listened to customers who asked for a toned-down high-performance model, and built the edition in response.

Hyundai describes the car as a new edition model, and applies the monochrome theme to selected components rather than the whole car. It says the restrained monochrome design expresses the essence of the brand's performance, and that the approach moves attention from colour to the car's silhouette, materials and performance-oriented details.

What changes

The monochrome theme is applied to selected exterior and interior parts. Revised details appear across the front and rear bumpers, the side sills, the brake calipers and the rear diffuser. The steering wheel is finished in Alcantara with black buttons, and Alcantara is also used on other select interior components.

Carbon-fibre exterior components add to the car's performance character. Two body colours are offered, Abyss Black Pearl and Performance Blue, subject to market availability. Hyundai says the Basic Trim has a black-themed design with Alcantara interior materials, while the Upper Trim adds a carbon-fibre rear spoiler and mirrors.

Heritage and intent

Hyundai ties the car to the Elantra N story, which runs from race cars to the performance models sold on the road. The company describes three ideas behind the design: restraint and maturity, a tribute to the model's development and performance history, and a focus on the car's dynamic character and the enjoyment it gives the driver.

The head of Hyundai's N Management Group describes a design built around restraint and maturity rather than a luxury finish, and says the car should still read clearly as an N model. The company frames the monochrome approach as a way to draw the eye to the car's form, proportion and texture.

Launch plans

Korea gets the car first, with sales starting in late October. Hyundai plans launches in Canada and Australia, with other global markets to follow. Specifications, pricing and volumes will vary by market, and the company says local sales details will come through its regional channels. Market-specific sales information will be announced separately.
