The 2022 Super2 champion steps into a Matt Stone Racing Commodore for the Sandown 500 weekend after Tommy Smith switched to a Ford Mustang with another team.
Declan Fraser, the 2022 Super2 champion who left PremiAir Racing after the Bathurst 1000, will drive a Matt Stone Racing Holden in the Super2 Series at this weekend's Penrite Oil Sandown 500, after Tommy Smith moved teams and cars, Supercars said.
Declan Fraser will return to the DUNLOP Super2 Series this weekend, driving a Matt Stone Racing Holden at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, Supercars said. The call-up follows Tommy Smith switching teams and cars.
Fraser, the 2022 Super2 champion, left PremiAir Racing after the Repco Bathurst 1000. Smith contested the first four rounds of the season in an MSR-prepared Commodore and now moves into a Ford Mustang.
What changes for Smith
Supercars said Smith is understood to be heading for a Ford run by Anderson Motorsport. The Bathurst team would field Jonathon Webb, Zak Best having left. The report did not carry confirmation of that move from the team.
Smith will stay with Matt Stone Racing in the TA2 series, where he has won at The Bend and Queensland Raceway this season.
What the team and driver said
MSR owner Matt Stone thanked Smith for his efforts and said the team looked forward to working with him in TA2 and finishing the season strongly together. Of Fraser, Stone said it was great that he was able to step in at such short notice, that he has a lot of experience and that he would be a great addition.
Fraser said he felt privileged to receive the call from Stone and the team, and that he wants to win. He added that the team will not know where it stands until the first sessions of the weekend, and that he is familiar with the ZB Commodore from his time in the Triple Eight wildcard alongside Craig Lowndes at the Bathurst 1000.
