Ollie Bearman lost his best Q2 lap to a track limits breach at Turn 12, while debutant Ryo Hirakawa was held up in Q1.
Haas drivers Ollie Bearman and Ryo Hirakawa qualified 15th and 19th for the Mexico City Grand Prix, Round 19 of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Bearman lost his fastest Q2 lap to a track limits violation at Turn 12, and Hirakawa was held up by traffic on his last Q1 run.
Haas will start the Mexico City Grand Prix from 15th with Ollie Bearman and 19th with Ryo Hirakawa, the team said after qualifying at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. It is Round 19 of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship.
Hirakawa held up in Q1
Hirakawa made his Formula 1 qualifying debut in the VF-26, his first competitive session in the car, after being called up to replace Esteban Ocon. His lap times fell as he worked through new sets of soft tyres, but traffic on his final flying run stopped what was set to be his quickest Q1 lap. His best, 1:18.958, left him 19th.
Bearman loses a lap at Turn 12
Bearman went through to Q2 with a best of 1:18.083, which was good for 11th in Q1. In Q2 he used two new sets of softs, but his fastest lap, a 1:17.847, was deleted for a track limits violation at Turn 12. That left his earlier 1:18.083 to stand as his best, and 15th in the session.
Bearman said the car felt very good in qualifying after it had not worked at all in FP3, and that the pace looks good for Sunday. Team Principal Ayao Komatsu called the day a mixed bag. He said Bearman's FP2 and FP3 sessions were disrupted and that the team had made engine changes on both days without missing a session. He praised Hirakawa for staying calm after being drafted in at the last minute.
Lewis Hamilton took pole for Ferrari with a 1:16.514.
