The short answer

Audi says its third-generation Q7 has earned five stars in Euro NCAP testing and 100 percent in the Post-Crash Safety category, which makes it the first production model to reach that score. The result was announced on 14 October, and Audi points to its emergency call and multicollision brake.

The third-generation Q7 holds the top Euro NCAP rating, five stars. Audi says the SUV is also the first production vehicle to reach the full score in Euro NCAP's Post-Crash Safety category, and it announced the result in mid-October. The company describes the score as a sign of its safety approach, which covers accident avoidance, protection during a collision and support for rescue work afterwards.

What the post-crash score measures

Euro NCAP's Post-Crash Safety category looks at whether the rescue chain is alerted automatically, whether vehicle information is available to crews, and whether people can be got out quickly and safely. The protocol also checks that doors unlock and open after an accident, that they can still be operated after a loss of low-voltage power, and that seat belt buckles can be opened. Audi says the Q7 earned maximum marks across rescue information, support after a crash and how easily occupants can leave the car.

The multicollision brake is central to Audi's argument. It uses crash sensors to recognise a relevant impact and can bring the car to a standstill on its own. The parking brake then holds it in place, the hazard lights come on, and the driver can override the braking. Audi says this can help prevent secondary collisions.

Rescue information

Audi connect emergency call can start the rescue chain automatically after a serious accident. In addition to the data set required by law, it can send further vehicle and location details. Rescue data sheets and rescue guides give emergency responders vehicle-specific information, which Audi says helps crews assess a scene more quickly and plan their work with more precision.

The Q7 can be ordered with seating for five, six or seven, and Audi presents it as a versatile SUV that combines interior space with comfort and driving dynamics. Detailed results for the car are available from Euro NCAP, and Audi says its models across the compact to premium SUV segments regularly reach top marks in the relevant NCAP testing programmes.

Audi calls the rating an independent assessment that confirms its holistic approach to safety. It also says the features matter most in the minutes after an impact, when occupants and rescue crews depend on accurate information.
