Angelle Sampey, a three-time NHRA world champion, has earned her Top Fuel license at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a 3.688-second run at 337.66 mph. She is now on the AB Motorsports Top Fuel roster.
Three-time NHRA world champion Angelle Sampey has joined the AB Motorsports Top Fuel roster. She finished her licensing runs on Monday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, running 3.688 seconds at 337.66 mph in the Matco Tools Eagle Experience dragster.
Antron Brown, a four-time Top Fuel world champion, and crew members Brian Corradi, Brad Mason and John Medlen helped guide her through the session. The licence is the next stage for Sampey in the team's Accelerate program, a development route that gives drivers seat time and mentoring on the way up in drag racing.
How she got here
Sampey entered the Accelerate program in 2023. Her Top Alcohol Dragster debut came at the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals, where she got to the semifinals. Her first Top Fuel passes were made last year at the same Las Vegas track, in Brown's dragster, and this week's session covered what remained.
Before the move to dragsters she won three Pro Stock Motorcycle world championships. She is also a Motorsports Hall of Fame of America Class of 2027 inductee.
What was said
Sampey said the team got her Top Fuel license in fine style with a 3.68 at 337.66 mph. "What we did today is insane," she said, adding that there are no words for what Top Fuel and Funny Car drivers experience on every run.
Brown said she slowed down to understand what was going on and ran a competitive E.T. "Now our focus turns to funding for 2027," he said.
