Built through the Truck and ARCA series, Young's Motorsports won at Talladega in 2021 and now fields a No. 02 Chevrolet and a No. 42 in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series.
Built through the Truck and ARCA series, this team now races a full-time No. 02 Chevrolet and a No. 42 in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series. Tate Fogleman won at Talladega for it in 2021, and its Xfinity line-up now includes Ryan Ellis and a rotating group of drivers.
Young's Motorsports is an American stock car team that races in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, where it fields the No. 02 Chevrolet Camaro SS full-time with Ryan Ellis and the No. 42 with several drivers. The team came up through the Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series, and Tyler Young, who drove for the team in its early Truck Series years, is among its first drivers.
How did Young's Motorsports enter the trucks?
The team debuted in the Camping World Truck Series in 2012 with Tyler Young on a part-time schedule. Young returned part-time in 2013 and ran the first full-time season in 2014. In 2016 the team went back to a part-time plan, sharing the No. 02 with Austin Hill Racing and Rette Jones Racing, and other drivers including Dylan Lupton, Austin Theriault, Derek Scott Jr. and Scott Lagasse Jr. also drove the truck that year.
In 2017 the truck was split between Austin Hill and Tyler Young, and Australian sprint car driver Max Johnston drove it at Eldora Speedway. In 2018 Hill ran the No. 02 full-time. He scored a top-five at Texas and six top-10 finishes, finishing eleventh in points, and he said rule changes and simple mistakes had held the team back.
A team that grew through the trucks and ARCA, won at Talladega and now runs two O'Reilly Series cars with a changing roster of drivers.
What were the Young's Motorsports truck years like?
In 2019 Tyler Dippel joined to drive the No. 02 full-time. NASCAR suspended him indefinitely on 23 August for a violation of the code of conduct. D. J. Kennington replaced him for the race at Canada, and Dippel was reinstated on 28 August. In 2020 Tate Fogleman drove the truck for Rookie of the Year honours and ended the season seventeenth in points, with a best finish of thirteenth at Michigan.
For 2021 the team added Kris Wright to the No. 02 and moved Fogleman to the No. 12. Wright began with a twelfth at Daytona, and when Wright made his Xfinity debut at the Daytona Road Course, Kaz Grala took the seat and finished eighth. After Wright tested positive for COVID-19 before Atlanta, Josh Berry finished 22nd there, and Daniel Suarez took the wheel at Bristol. Grala returned at Circuit of the Americas, finished second to Todd Gilliland after battling him for stage one, and the team's crew chief Eddie Troconis was suspended indefinitely on 6 October.

How did Fogleman win at Talladega?
On 2 October 2021 Fogleman took his first career win and the team's second Talladega victory. He sent John Hunter Nemechek sideways and beat Tyler Hill by 0.052 seconds, and both trucks crashed into the inner wall at the finish. The win gave the No. 12 team a memorable result in a season that had begun with a 30th-place crash at Daytona.
Fogleman's win came in the No. 12, which had been set up for Fogleman's second season after he moved from the No. 02 to make room for Wright.
Who drove the No. 12 and No. 20 trucks?
The No. 12 debuted at Iowa Speedway in 2018 with Reid Wilson. In 2019 Gus Dean drove it full-time, spun on the last laps of the February Daytona race, finished fifteenth in points and had a best finish of thirteenth at Michigan. In 2022 Spencer Boyd moved from the No. 20 to the No. 12 full-time. He missed the field for the season opener at Daytona and managed one top-twenty finish all year before leaving at the end of the season.
The No. 20 was formerly Austin Hill Racing's number. Scott Lagasse Jr. drove it to a fifth at the 2018 Daytona opener, and Boyd took the truck to a career-best fourth at Daytona in 2019. At Talladega that year he finished unofficially second, but Johnny Sauter was penalised for forcing Riley Herbst below the double yellow line, handing the win to Boyd and Young's Motorsports. Boyd's best finish in 2020 was fourteenth at Texas, and he was twentieth in points.
Multiple drivers filled the No. 20 in later years. Derek Kraus, Matt Mills, Mason Maggio, Ed Jones and several others shared it in 2023, and in 2024 Vicente Salas, Blake Lothian, Brad Perez and others ran part-time. In 2025 Stefan Parsons, Jordan Anderson, Mason Massey and Will Rodgers took turns.
What happened with the No. 46 and No. 42 trucks?
The No. 42 truck began in 2014 as a second entry for Charles Lewandoski, which was withdrawn at Daytona. A second truck returned at Kansas as a start-and-park car to help fund the No. 02, but it shut down after six starts. On 10 July 2024 the team announced it had acquired the No. 46 and its team from Faction46, and Thad Moffitt raced it from Pocono for the rest of the season.
What is the team doing in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series now?
On 3 January 2024 the team announced an Xfinity Series entry for 2024, and Leland Honeyman was named the full-time driver of the No. 42 that day. Anthony Alfredo was announced for the No. 42 full-time on 14 January 2025.
On 12 February 2026 Carson Hocevar was named for the No. 42 Chevrolet at the season-opening United Rentals 300 at Daytona. A string of drivers followed, including Nick Leitz at Atlanta, J. J. Yeley at Circuit of the Americas, Nathan Byrd from Phoenix, Will Rodgers at Watkins Glen with Drydene sponsorship. Matt DiBenedetto was announced for the No. 42 at the fall Las Vegas and Charlotte races on 2 September. On 10 November 2025 the team announced a second O'Reilly entry, the No. 02, with Ryan Ellis.
How did the team go in ARCA?
On 14 January 2021 the team expanded into the ARCA Menards Series, running the No. 02 part-time. It first entered at ARCA's Daytona test in January with Kris Wright and Toni Breidinger. Breidinger later left to join Venturini Motorsports, and Connor Mosack made three starts for the rest of that year. Mark Green appeared at Mid-Ohio.
In 2022 Leland Honeyman drove the No. 02 for three races, and Mamba Smith made his ARCA debut at Indianapolis Raceway Park. In 2023 Miguel Gomes started at Daytona, and Honeyman and Parker Retzlaff drove other races. In 2025 Craig Bracken finished 27th at Daytona after a crash on lap 19.
The team also ran part of the ARCA East and West series. In ARCA East, Connor Mosack finished seventh at Dover in 2021 and sixteenth at Milwaukee, and Honeyman ran the series full-time in 2022. In ARCA West, Toni Breidinger ran Phoenix in 2021, Katie Hettinger ran Las Vegas and Phoenix in 2022, and in 2023 Honeyman, Retzlaff and Mamba Smith covered several rounds.
What is the legacy of Young's Motorsports?
Young's Motorsports is a team that built its name across several divisions, with its biggest moment coming in the truck series at Talladega in 2021. Its drivers included Tyler Young, Austin Hill, Kris Wright, Tate Fogleman and Spencer Boyd, and its ARCA programme offered a route to the top series for several young drivers.
The team has also relied on shared rides and sponsor-led schedules. Its Truck Series seats changed hands often, but its current Xfinity line-up and second O'Reilly entry suggest a more stable structure.
How did the Truck Series partnerships work?
The truck programme leaned on partnerships. In 2013 Tyler Young drove the No. 6 at Rockingham Speedway using the owners' points of Sharp Gallaher Racing, and he finished 24th. In 2016 the team joined Austin Hill Racing on the No. 02 Ford for four of Hill's races. Rette Jones Racing then teamed up with the operation, putting Dominique Van Wieringen in the No. 02 at Phoenix. At Homestead the team fielded the No. 07 truck for Patrick Staropoli, using owner points from SS-Green Light Racing.
In 2017 Hill shared the team's No. 02 with Tyler Young, but Hill drove Ford trucks he owned, while Young ran Chevrolets from the team's inventory. The arrangement shows how the team used outside owners and shared equipment to keep its trucks on the grid.
What did the No. 20 entry look like in 2018?
The No. 20 was Austin Hill Racing's former number, and in 2017 it became the second truck when Hill moved to the No. 02. The team planned to run the No. 20 full-time in 2018, but Richard Childress Racing affiliated drivers took most of the seats. Scott Lagasse Jr. opened the season at Daytona with a fifth place, and Austin Dillon, Ty Dillon, Daniel Hemric and Tanner Thorson drove the remaining races, with Thorson taking most of them. Max Tullman, Bubba Wallace, Tate Fogleman, Reid Wilson and Michel Disdier also took turns in the truck that year.
How did the 2022 truck season unfold?
For 2022 the No. 02 was split between Jesse Little and Kaz Grala, a plan announced in December 2021. Spencer Boyd became the regular No. 12 driver, and a last-lap accident at Las Vegas left him with a dislocated shoulder. The No. 20 then ran with a rotating group that included Danny Bohn, Sheldon Creed, Austin Dillon and Garrett Smithley. Creed earned the pole at Circuit of the Americas, but a transmission problem ended his race after one lap.
How did Kris Wright's 2021 season go?
Kris Wright started the 2021 truck season with a twelfth place at Daytona. He ran a throwback scheme to Dale Earnhardt at Darlington, but his longtime sponsor, Goodwrench, was replaced by wrightcars.com, with the letters enlarged to read Goodwright. Michael Annett's planned debut at Knoxville was cancelled by a leg injury, and Chris Windom took the seat instead.
Wright then tested positive for COVID-19 just before the Atlanta race, and Josh Berry replaced him there and finished 22nd. Across the first few races the car also carried Kaz Grala, Daniel Suarez and Berry, so the seat changed hands almost every weekend.
What happened to the No. 02 truck in 2024?
On 12 February 2024 the team announced that Mason Massey would run the No. 02 full-time. He parted ways with the team after the race at Richmond. Dexter Bean, Justin Mondeik, Nathan Byrd, Keith McGee and Dylan Lupton then filled the rest of the season, and the seat became a patchwork once again.
