The short answer

Pepe Marti is a Spanish racing driver born on 13 June 2005. He took wins with Campos in Formula 3 and Formula 2, and now races in Formula E for Cupra Kiro, where he took his first podium at Monaco.

Pepe Marti races in Formula E for Cupra Kiro, having come up through Spanish karting and single-seater series. He spent 2023 to 2025 in the Red Bull Junior Team and won races in Formula 3 and Formula 2 with Campos Racing. He took his first Formula E podium at Monaco during the 2025-26 season.

Who is Pepe Marti?

Josep Maria Marti Sobrepera, known as Pepe, was born on 13 June 2005 and is a Spanish racing driver. He raced with Campos Racing in Formula 3 and Formula 2, finishing fifth in the 2023 Formula 3 Drivers' Championship and taking his first Formula 2 win at Yas Marina in 2024.

His career has taken him from karting through the Formula 4 and Formula Regional series, then into Formula 3, Formula 2 and Formula E. He moved to Formula E after two seasons in Formula 2 and spent 2025-26 with Cupra Kiro.

That Monaco podium made him the first driver from Spain to stand on the series podium.

How did Marti start in karting?

Marti's karting began in late 2016, when he was eleven. Tony Kart signed him in 2018, and the year after he claimed the junior title of the Spanish karting series while driving for Fernando Alonso's team.

In 2020, his last year in karts, he placed seventh in the OK category at the CIK-FIA world championship while racing for Kart Republic.

What was the 2021 single-seater debut like?

Marti made his single-seater debut in January 2021 with Xcel Motorsport in the Formula 4 UAE Championship. The debut was difficult, but he took his first podium in the second race at Yas Marina. He finished seventh in the standings, 184 points adrift of champion Enzo Trulli, with one win and four podiums.

That year he also raced in Spanish F4 with Campos Racing, which had entered the championship for the first time. He spent much of the season fighting his teammate Sebastian Ogaard for second overall, and he finished third himself, with two wins and nine podiums.

How did the Formula Regional series go in 2022 and 2023?

In 2022 Marti raced in the Formula Regional Asian Championship for Pinnacle Motorsport, and he finished second overall with 158 points and the rookie cup. In 2023 he went back to Middle East Formula Regional racing with Pinnacle Van Amersfoort Racing, won twice and finished seventh.

The 2022 season began with two retirements, and five podiums followed. In 2023 he missed the third round in Kuwait, then closed the season with two wins and 79 points.

What did Marti achieve in his first Formula 3 season?

Having tested for the team after the 2021 season, Marti moved up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Campos Racing in 2022. He had a disappointing year, closing 26th in the table on two points, ahead of teammate Hunter Yeany. Another Spaniard, David Vidales, was also in the team, but he finished well above Marti.

His feature race debut brought a climb from 20th to 13th. At Imola he made a bold call on wet tyres on a drying track, and that gamble let him lead for several laps before he pitted for slicks, but he finished 15th. His first points came in the sprint race at Monza, where he finished ninth after starting third.

How did the 2023 Formula 3 season go?

In 2023 Marti ended fifth in the title standings. The season yielded three wins and two poles, four podiums and 105 points. He took his first Formula 3 win in the sprint race from second place, passing Franco Colapinto for the lead on the way.

At Monaco he qualified on reverse pole and won the sprint from lights to flag by eight seconds, his second win of the year. He then took his first pole at Barcelona and dominated the feature race, winning by four seconds and moving up to second in the standings.

Later rounds brought a third place at Silverstone in a damp feature race and a second pole at Spa-Francorchamps. Spa ended in a sprint collision that also hit another driver, and a tyre choice on a damp circuit left him ninth at the flag in the feature race. Monza ended with a double retirement caused by incidents outside his control.

In Hungary he started 13th in both races, but a spin by Nikola Tsolov dropped him to 20th in the sprint. He climbed to sixth in the feature race.

What did Marti do at the Macau Grand Prix?

Marti raced in the 2023 Macau Grand Prix with Campos, the same team that ran him in Formula 3 that year. It was his debut at Macau, and he finished fifth, the highest result of any Campos driver that weekend.

How did Marti's Formula 2 rookie season go?

Marti moved up to Formula 2 for 2024, staying with Campos Racing. He was partnered by Isack Hadjar, another Red Bull junior, and his debut campaign ended 14th overall, with one win, four podiums and 62 points.

His Bahrain weekend was strong. He qualified 11th, moved up to third in the sprint race for a debut podium, and then finished second in the feature race, a debut double podium that only two earlier drivers had managed.

The next rounds were uneven. In Jeddah he finished seventh in the sprint after forcing an error from Kush Maini on the final lap, but a spin on lap one of the feature race ended his race. In Melbourne he qualified in the top ten for the first time, but a collision at the sprint start and a clash with Oliver Bearman in the feature race left him out of the points.

He went without points until the feature race at home in Barcelona, where he finished ninth. In Austria he qualified eighth, moved to second early in the sprint and held on to his first podium since Bahrain. A penalty for an illegal pit stop under the virtual safety car later sent him back to 15th in the feature race.

At Baku he crashed heavily into the stationary car of Kush Maini, and his car flipped over. At Yas Marina he rose to the front from the start of the sprint race and controlled it to take his first Formula 2 win. He finished sixth in the feature race to close the weekend.

How did Marti's 2025 Formula 2 season unfold?

In 2025 Marti stayed with Campos, the team he had joined for his Formula 2 debut, and his partner was Arvid Lindblad. He won three sprint races, at Bahrain, Austria and Budapest. He left Formula 2 before the Qatar round, when he was sixth in the standings.

He aimed to fight at the front from the first round. In Melbourne he qualified 12th but made progress to eighth in the sprint. In Bahrain he overtook Joshua Durksen to win the sprint, then finished fifth in the feature race, four-tenths short of a podium.

In Jeddah he battled Richard Verschoor for the lead, but a mid-race mistake dropped him to third behind Lindblad. A penalty for Verschoor promoted him to second, and he finished the feature race fifth, which lifted him to second in the table.

A pointless weekend at Imola dropped him out of the top five, and Monaco brought a double retirement. He returned to the points at Barcelona with sixth place in the feature race. He won the Austrian sprint, and was set for a podium in the feature race until a penalty for contact with Victor Martins sent him back to sixth.

After Silverstone, where he recovered ten positions in the feature race to finish ninth, he scored fifth and fourth at Spa-Francorchamps. In the Budapest sprint he fought Lindblad for the lead and won, his third win of the year. A slow pit stop cost him more points in the feature race, where he finished tenth.

At Monza he narrowly missed points in the sprint but took third in the feature race, his first feature podium of the year. Baku then went badly. He was taken out in a collision with Rafael Villagomez in the sprint, and a penalty after the race for contact with Martinius Stenshorne dropped him out of the points from sixth.

Why did Marti leave Formula 2 early?

Before the Qatar round Marti signed with CUPRA Kiro to race in the 2025-26 Formula E season. Over his two Formula 2 seasons he had earned four wins in the series. A Formula 3 vice-champion, Nikola Tsolov, took over his Campos seat.

He had joined the Red Bull Junior Team in August 2023 and remained part of that programme until 2025. The move to Formula E ended that link.

How did the 2025-26 Formula E season go?

Marti drove for Cupra Kiro alongside Dan Ticktum in 2025-26. His first top-ten result came in only his second race, a seventh place in Mexico City after starting 20th.

That Mexico City result came despite a ten-second stop-go penalty after an inverter, MGU and gearbox change in practice. By the time he reached Monaco he had five top-ten results from eight races, and there he finished third, his first Formula E podium.

That Monaco podium made him the first driver from Spain to stand on the series podium. Sanya then brought second place, his second podium of that season, and Marti is set to continue with Cupra Kiro for the 2026-27 season, when the series moves into its Gen4 era.

What is Marti's record so far?

Marti has won races in the UAE and Spanish Formula 4 championships, in Formula 3 and in Formula 2, and he has a Formula E podium. Earlier in that record sit a 2022 rookie cup in Asia and a third place in Spanish F4 in 2021. He was a Red Bull junior from 2023 to 2025, and he joined the management team of Fernando Alonso, A14 Management, in September 2022.

His results have come in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, as well as in Macau. Outside single-seaters, he made his sportscar debut at the 2022 Historic Zandvoort Grand Prix in a Norma M30 run by Duqueine, winning both races in his G2/P3 class.
