Felipe Drugovich, born in 2000, is a Brazilian driver who won the 2018 Euroformula Open title with a record fourteen wins and the 2022 Formula 2 championship. He was an Aston Martin reserve driver from 2022 to 2025 and races in Formula E for Andretti.

Felipe Drugovich Roncato is a Brazilian racing driver, born on 23 May 2000, who competes in Formula E for Andretti. He is the 2022 Formula 2 champion and the 2018 Euroformula Open champion, and from 2022 to 2025 he was a reserve for Aston Martin in Formula One.

How did Drugovich start in karting and single-seaters?

He was already racing karts across Brazil and Europe before he reached single-seaters. Born in Maringa in southern Brazil, he raced in many karting series in Brazil and Europe, and he took major titles along the way. Those years gave him the grounding for his later career.

He made his single-seater debut in 2016, joining Neuhauser Racing in ADAC Formula 4, his first season outside karting. That debut came in 2016. His first and only podium of the season came in third place at the Zandvoort round, and the season closed with fourth in the rookie standings and twelfth overall, a total of 79.5 points.

The following year he switched to Van Amersfoort Racing and made his debut in Italian F4 with the team. He won seven races, the most of any driver that season, and finished third in the standings with 236.5 points.

That title fight ended narrowly. He missed out by nine points to champion Juri Vips, after a technical issue in the final round at the Hockenheimring had potentially cost him the championship.

A record-breaking Euroformula champion who won the 2022 Formula 2 title and then moved into Formula E with Andretti.

What did Drugovich win in the MRF Challenge and Euroformula?

In the MRF Challenge he took his first single-seater win in the second race of round two and ended fourth overall. The next year he took the title, winning ten of sixteen races with two rounds still to run. Those results gave him a clear platform for European racing.

He then contested the 2017 finale at the Hockenheimring in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, with Van Amersfoort Racing. The same year he made his Euroformula Open debut as a guest driver with RP Motorsport in the final round, scoring a pole.

Despite a mistake in the first race of that weekend, he took his first Euroformula Open win in the second. The success led to a full-time return with RP the following year.

In 2018 he dominated the Euroformula Open championship. He finished on the podium at every race, claimed a record fourteen wins, and took the title at Monza with two rounds to spare. Motorsport.com ranked him 18th in its top-20 list of junior single-seater drivers of 2018.

What was the 2019 FIA Formula 3 season like?

In 2018 he also stepped in for the injured Harrison Scott at RP's Pro Mazda round at Mid-Ohio. Later that year he took part in the GP3 post-season test at Yas Marina with ART Grand Prix, posting 11th and 17th fastest times on Day 1 and Day 2.

Carlin Buzz Racing announced in February 2019 that he would drive for them in the first FIA Formula 3 Championship, with Logan Sargeant and Teppei Natori as teammates. The season proved difficult, and he scored points on only one occasion.

That single points finish came with sixth in race one of the Hungary round. In race two he was set for another points finish until contact with Robert Shwartzman in a fight for third left him with a puncture, and both drivers retired.

He ended the season sixteenth in the standings with eight points, scoring more than his two teammates combined.

How did Drugovich's Formula 2 rookie season go in 2020?

He signed with MP Motorsport for 2020, partnering Nobuharu Matsushita. He impressed on his debut in Austria by qualifying second, and after dropping positions on the opening lap he finished eighth, which earned him reverse pole for the sprint race.

In that sprint he led every lap and claimed his maiden Formula 2 victory, despite several safety car interruptions. The second Austrian round went less well: tenth in qualifying and no points in either race.

In Budapest he qualified eighteenth, but an alternate tyre strategy in the feature race took him to fifth. He then secured his maiden pole at Silverstone, though he lacked race pace in the feature and finished seventh.

At Barcelona he won the sprint by nine seconds after taking the lead at the start. Contact with Matsushita at Spa-Francorchamps damaged his car and led to a last-place finish, later compounded by a disqualification for pitting on the last lap.

He returned to form in Bahrain, qualifying second and winning the feature race by fourteen seconds after passing polesitter Ilott on track. He finished the rookie season ninth in the championship with 121 points, three wins, one pole and four podiums.

What was the 2021 Formula 2 season like?

For 2021 Drugovich joined UNI-Virtuosi Racing, alongside Guanyu Zhou. He began the year with a third-place qualifying effort in Bahrain, but incidents and strategic setbacks compromised his race results, and a front wing problem dropped him to sixteenth in the first sprint.

In Monaco he secured his first podium of the season in the first sprint, after inheriting second place when Christian Lundgaard retired. He recovered in the feature race to finish third after an early pit stop.

Baku was a tough weekend, with a first-lap collision with Oscar Piastri in the opening sprint earning him a ten-second penalty. He rebounded in the feature with a charge to fourth place, and more consistent points followed at Silverstone with finishes of fourth, sixth and sixth.

His momentum stalled at Monza, where he crashed out of the first sprint, and confusion over front wing damage during a pit stop in the feature race dropped him to twelfth. He returned to form in Jeddah with a fourth-place finish in the opening sprint and a fifth in a red-flagged feature race.

At the Abu Dhabi finale he finished second in the opening sprint and third in the feature. He ended the season eighth in the drivers' standings, with 105 points and four podiums, but without a race win.

How did Drugovich win the 2022 Formula 2 title?

Drugovich re-joined MP Motorsport for 2022, this time partnering Clement Novalak. He qualified tenth in Bahrain and later took his first pole of the year in Jeddah, where he then dominated the feature race to claim his first win of the season.

At Barcelona he won both races, the first time a driver had won both races of a Formula 2 weekend. That double victory significantly extended his championship lead.

At Monaco he crashed in qualifying but inherited pole after a penalty for Liam Lawson. A puncture ended his sprint on lap 20, but he rebounded to win the feature race and claim his fourth victory of the season.

Zandvoort brought his first consecutive poles in his career, and he won the feature race there as well. That result extended his championship lead to 69 points.

At Monza, after retiring early in the sprint following contact with Amaury Cordeel, he was crowned the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Champion when Pourchaire's finish failed to score. The final tally was 265 points, 101 clear of Pourchaire, from five wins, four poles and eleven podiums.

What was Drugovich's time as an Aston Martin reserve like?

On 12 September 2022, two days after the title, he was named the first member of AMF1's new Driver Development Programme, and he also joined Aston Martin as a reserve driver. He tested the AMR21 at Silverstone in early November, which fulfilled the requirements for an FIA Super Licence.

He took part in free practice at the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and he also took part in the post-season test there with Aston Martin.

For 2023 he was added, alongside Stoffel Vandoorne, to McLaren's pool of reserve drivers for the first 15 races. He drove the Aston Martin AMR23 in pre-season testing in Bahrain after Lance Stroll was hurt in a cycling accident.

An electrical fault forced him to stop on track soon after leaving the pit lane for the first time, which triggered a red flag. He returned on the final morning of testing and completed a combined total of 117 laps across the programme.

In 2024 he continued as test and reserve driver. At the Mexico City Grand Prix he took his first free-practice outing of 2024 and finished eighteenth, and at Abu Dhabi he set the ninth fastest time in first practice.

In 2025 his first free-practice outing of the year came at Bahrain, where he finished sixteenth. At the Hungarian Grand Prix he stepped in for Fernando Alonso during first practice after the Spaniard was injured. He left Aston Martin after the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

How did Drugovich's Formula E career begin?

In April 2023 Maserati MSG Racing selected him for the Berlin rookie test, where he finished first, setting a lap two tenths off the best time set by Maximilian Gunther in the SABIC Berlin E-Prix. He returned to Maserati in the rookie practice session at the Rome ePrix, where he again topped the timesheets.

He returned with Maserati in the Berlin rookie test in May 2024. His Formula E debut came at the 2025 Berlin ePrix with Mahindra Racing, alongside Edoardo Mortara, when he stepped in for Nyck de Vries.

The debut was difficult. A drive-through penalty at the start of the race, caused by a gearbox change, effectively ruined it, and he finished 17th. In the second race, two late Attack Modes let him charge up the order, and he collected his maiden points in seventh.

What has Drugovich achieved with Andretti?

After a successful cameo, Andretti signed Drugovich for the 2025-26 season alongside 2022-23 champion Jake Dennis. The season opened at Sao Paulo, where he crashed in qualifying and then climbed late in the race, only to be demoted from fifth to 12th by a penalty for overtaking two cars during a full-course yellow.

Mexico City ended 15th for him. At Miami he qualified second and fought for a podium in a rain-hit race, before misjudging his braking point at turn 13 on lap 26 and hitting the back of Antonio Felix da Costa's Jaguar. A pit stop for a new front wing and a ten-second penalty left him 18th.

At Jeddah he finished 15th and 12th, and in the first race debris stuck in a radiator duct forced him to manage the battery temperatures conservatively. In Madrid he briefly led after an early Attack Mode activation, but slid back to finish 15th.

He will remain at Andretti into the Gen4 era alongside Dennis for the 2026-27 season.

How did Drugovich perform in endurance racing?

After a year on the sidelines, Drugovich returned in the 2024 European Le Mans Series with Vector Sport, partnering Stephane Richelmi and Ryan Cullen. At Imola he shuffled up the pack thanks to the team's pit strategy, and he held off Tom Dillmann to finish third.

That same year he took part in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans with Whelen Cadillac Racing, finishing 15th in the Hypercar class.

In 2025 he signed with Cadillac Whelen Racing for the 24 Hours of Daytona. He also returned to Le Mans, but retired with a debilitating engine issue. In 2026 he served as Cadillac Racing's reserve driver at Le Mans.

What did Drugovich do in IndyCar and the Race of Champions?

Drugovich was offered a chance to test for Ed Carpenter Racing after the 2023 IndyCar season, but he turned it down. A year later he was confirmed to test IndyCar machinery with Chip Ganassi Racing at Barber Motorsports Park, and afterwards he said he was surprised by the speed.

In 2023 he raced at the Race of Champions in Sweden, paired with Thierry Neuville in the ROC Nations Cup for the All-Star team. They beat Team USA and Team Germany but lost the final to Team Norway.
