BYD's luxury brand has teased the silhouette of the car and said it will be shown for the first time in the United Arab Emirates.
Yangwang, the luxury brand of BYD Auto, released an official teaser and statement on 27 October 2026 naming its upcoming flagship sedan the Altior. The teaser shows only the silhouette and some design elements. Yangwang has confirmed that the UAE is where the car will make its public debut.
Yangwang has given its flagship sedan a name and a stage. On 27 October 2026 the BYD luxury brand released an official teaser and statement showing the silhouette of the Altior and part of its design, and it has confirmed that the car will be unveiled in the UAE.
What has been shown so far
The teaser is limited to an outline and a few design elements. Before it, the car had only been seen in spy photographs, where it went by the codename HU. The Altior is an upcoming full-size luxury sedan built by BYD Auto, and it is set to be the brand's flagship. It is the second sedan in the range, following the U7.
A name unlike the rest
Every Yangwang so far has carried a letter and a number. The Altior is the first to get a proper word instead, and it has separate Chinese and English names. Yangwang says the English name is taken from Latin, where it means "higher". The Chinese name, Dingyao, is meant to express the spirit of a contemporary creator, the brand says.
The brand behind it
Yangwang is BYD's luxury electric brand, introduced in January 2023 and positioned above BYD's other sub-brands, Denza and Fangchengbao, as of 2024. It was also the first BYD brand to adopt the company's individual wheel drive technology, called e4.
The line-up the Altior will join is small and varied:
- U7: a luxury sedan on sale since 2025, offered as a plug-in hybrid and as a battery-electric car.
- U8: a range-extended electric off-road SUV launched in 2023, with a claimed 1,100 horsepower; the U8L long-wheelbase version arrived in 2025.
- U9: a battery-electric supercar on sale since 2024, with a claimed 0-100 kph time of 2 seconds.
