A battery that charged 30 to 80 per cent in 10 minutes, a compact crossover that went global and a premium SUV with 800-volt charging.
GAC's Aion V is a compact crossover now in its second generation, the Aion Y is a compact crossover with a longer Plus version, and the Hyptec HT is a premium mid-size SUV renamed the S600 in 2026. All are electric, with range-extender versions of some, and they are sold in China and several export markets.
In 2021 GAC Aion launched an Aion V Plus battery that could go from 30% to 80% in 10 minutes. The catch was the charger. It needed a 480 kW supercharger, and in early October 2021 there was exactly one such station, in Guangzhou. That gap between what a car can do and what the world can plug it into runs through GAC's electric range. Three SUVs and crossovers from its two EV brands, the Aion V, Aion Y and Hyptec HT, each show a different side of how GAC has tried to build a family of electric cars.
What is the GAC Aion V?
GAC Aion builds the Aion V, a compact crossover SUV that runs on batteries alone. The first generation arrived in 2020, a major facelift called the Aion V Plus followed in 2021, and a second generation was released in 2024. GAC revealed the first car on 14 May 2020 through the GAC New Energy social media account and launched it on 16 June 2020. It was the third Aion after the S and the LX, and the brand's second SUV.
First-generation Aion V
The first car came in V 60, V 70 and V 80 Max trims, rated on the NEDC cycle at 400 km (249 mi), 530 km (329 mi) and 600 km (373 mi). It used a lithium-ion battery and 5G and V2X communication systems. A two-tone paint scheme was available, as were separate colours for the antenna and spoiler.
Aion V Plus
GAC unveiled the Aion V Plus in September 2021, giving it new front and rear styling, a new interior and ultrafast charging. The battery accepts charging at up to 880 V and a peak of 480 kW. The car is 4,650 mm (183 in) in length and 1,920 mm (76 in) across, stands 1,720 mm (68 in) high and has a 2,830 mm (111 in) wheelbase. Aion says its simpler front bumper was inspired by Star Wars characters. Inside, the digital dashboard and the 15.6-inch touch infotainment screen are separate units.
Three battery sizes, from 70 to 95 kWh, support an NEDC range between 500 and 702 km (310-436 miles). Every version has two electric motors, and total output rises from 221 PS (218 hp / 163 kW) in the base car to 271 PS (267 hp / 200 kW) at the top.
How fast does the Aion V Plus charge?
In late September 2021 GAC Aion launched a Plus fitted with a 72.3 kWh battery it calls SPEED+. Charging takes it from 30% to 80% in 10 minutes, or 0-80% in 16 minutes, and five minutes on the charger adds 112 km (70 mi) of range. A battery about twice as quick, SPEED++, was announced, and five minutes of charging is expected to add 207 km (129 mi). A demonstration car showed it off, though no production model has used it.
Charging that fast depends on the station. GAC Aion showed a charger delivering 480 kW, which it calls the A480 supercharger, and said a network would be built in China. Just one existed by early October 2021. The maker says the V is its first model with what it calls super multiplier battery technology. Its magazine battery, GAC says, does not catch fire in pinprick tests and keeps 95 percent of its capacity after 1,600 cycles.
Second-generation Aion V and the i60
Beijing's 2024 Auto Show saw the debut of the second-generation Aion V, which went on sale in China in July 2024. It was designed as a global model. In China it is sold as the Aion V Bawang long, meaning Tyrannosaurus Rex. It rides on GAC's Architecture Electric Platform 3.0, which GAC credits with the first fully liquid-cooled electric drive, along with an AI-driven cockpit and an ADiGO Pilot driving system using lidar, millimetre-wave radars and cameras.
The Aion i60, launched in 2025, is the range-extender and battery-electric variant of the Aion V. The electric version has a motor of 150 kW (201 hp; 204 PS) or 165 kW (221 hp; 224 PS). The range-extender version pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine of 74 kW (99 hp; 101 PS) with the same motor choices and a 29.165 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a WLTC electric range of 160 km (99 mi). In May 2026 GAC revealed the fifth-generation Trumpchi GS4, the petrol version of the second-generation Aion V and i60.
Where the Aion V is sold
Indonesia saw the car in November 2024 at Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week, with sales starting in February 2025. National Assemblers, a subsidiary of Indomobil Group, builds it locally in Exclusive (64.5 kWh) and Luxury (75.3 kWh) forms. Singapore launched the Luxury on 27 February 2025, adding the 64.5 kWh Premium in July 2025. Thailand received a sole 602 Luxury variant on 28 November 2024 and the 500 Premium in March 2026.
For Europe, the Aion V was shown at the 2024 Paris Motor Show as GAC Group's first global strategic model for the continent. Its release was delayed by uncertainty over extra tariffs that the European Union placed on Chinese-built battery-electric vehicles in October 2024, and it reached selected markets in September 2025. The European car comes with the 75.3 kWh battery, a heat pump and an onboard fridge that doubles as a warmer. Australia followed on 18 November 2025 in Premium and Luxury versions, both with the 75.3 kWh pack, as part of GAC's entry there.
Charging that fast depends on the station, and in October 2021 there was one.
What is the GAC Aion Y?
GAC Aion has built the Aion Y, another battery-only compact crossover, since 2021. It appeared as a concept at Auto Guangzhou in November 2020, previewing the brand's fourth model and sharing the stand with the Trumpchi Empow performance sedan and a concept called the GAC Moca. Pre-sale orders began on 29 March 2021, and the car launched in the second half of the year. A ride-hailing version, the Aion Y Pio, has a different front bumper and side fenders. The successor is the Aion N60, introduced in 2026 with battery swapping.
Aion Y battery and driving aids
The Aion Y sits on GAC's GEP 2.0 platform and comes in five grade levels with four cruising ranges: 460, 500, 503 and 600 km (286, 311, 313 and 373 mi). It uses a Magazine Battery developed in-house, built as either an NMC lithium-ion or an LFP pack, with an energy density of 184Wh/kg and consumption of 13.8 kWh per 100 km in working conditions. The 60 kWh pack with a 100 kW (134 hp; 136 PS) motor delivers 460 km (290 mi) on the NEDC cycle, the 70 kWh pack 500 km (310 mi) and the 80 kWh pack 600 km (370 mi). Larger-battery models have a motor of 135 kW (181 hp; 184 PS) on the front axle. Four driving modes, three steering modes and extra braking energy recovery modes are on offer.
The cabin is minimalist, with a 14.5-inch horizontal central screen, digital instruments and 5G connectivity. According to GAC, the car can scan occupants' faces and adjust some settings. The ADiGO driver-assistance suite groups five safe-driving functions, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping and driver monitoring, with seven assisted-driving functions, among them adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist and remote parking.
Aion Y Plus and its markets
The Aion Y Plus, unveiled in October 2022, is a slightly longer Y with styling cues from the smaller Aion V Plus. Its length grows to 4,535 mm (178.5 in), with 23 mm (0.9 in) added to the front overhang and 102 mm (4.0 in) to the rear, on the same wheelbase. The motor makes 150 kW (201 hp; 204 PS) and 225 N-m. The Y Plus 70 Executive has a 63.98 kWh LFP battery and a range of 510 km (320 mi), while the Y Plus 80 Executive has a 76.8 kWh ternary lithium pack and a range of 610 km (380 mi). It has been exported since 2023, when a right-hand-drive model began production.
Thailand received the Y Plus on 9 September 2023, when the GAC and Aion brands arrived there, as GAC's first model in the country. The 490 Elite has a 63.2 kWh battery and 490 km (300 mi) range. The 550 Ultra, with a 68.3 kWh pack and 550 km (340 mi), was replaced in November 2023 by the 490 Premium. Malaysia saw it in January 2024 and launched it on 21 May 2024 at the Malaysia Autoshow, in Elite and Premium trims. Singapore launched it on 5 April 2024 as the first Aion there, and in Indonesia it was GAC's first model, shown to the media on 11 June 2024 and sold from 19 June 2024 in Exclusive (50.6 kWh, 410 km) and Premium (63.2 kWh, 490 km) versions. The Philippines launch came on 17 September 2024 and Vietnam's on 16 October 2024, each alongside the Aion ES.
Another family member is the Hycan Z03, launched in October 2021 by Hycan, the joint venture of GAC and Nio. It is an Aion Y with redesigned ends, interior and wheels, 4,602 mm (181.2 in) long on a 2,750 mm (108.3 in) wheelbase. Its motors range from 135 kW to 160 kW (215 hp; 218 PS), and NEDC ranges of 500 and 600 km come from 64.6 and 76.8 kWh batteries.
What is the Hyptec HT?
GAC Aion produces the Hyptec HT, once known as the Hyper HT, for its premium Hyptec brand: a mid-size SUV powered by batteries alone. It is the third Hyptec after the SSR and GT. GAC Aion renamed the Hyper brand's English name to Hyptec in August 2024. A refreshed version for 2026 is named the Hyptec S600, with pure-electric and range-extender options.
HT performance and charging
The HT's motor gives 250 kW (340 hp) and 430 N-m (320 lb-ft), and the 0-100 km/h time is 5.8 seconds. The entry-level HT is different: a 400-volt system with a rear-wheel-drive motor of 180 kW (245 PS; 241 hp) and 355 N-m, 6.8 seconds to 100 km/h, 600 km (373 mi) on the CLTC cycle and 140 km (87 mi) added by a 10-minute charge. The three other trims move to 800 volts. The two lower of them drive 670 km (416 mi) and add 415 km (258 mi) in a 15-minute charge, while the flagship, with LiDAR, goes 770 km (478 mi) and adds 450 km (280 mi) in 10 minutes.
Thailand launched the HT on 19 September 2024 in Premium and Luxury Gull-Wing trims with the 83.3 kWh pack, and Indonesia launched it on 8 November 2024 in Premium and Ultra versions with an 83 kWh pack. Singapore had it on 27 January 2025 in Premium and Luxury.
Hyptec S600
Launched in April 2026, the S600 comes as a pure EV or a range-extender. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive Ultra has dual-chamber air suspension and sits 15 mm (0.59 in) lower. Battery-electric versions have a narrower front track, 1,640 mm (64.6 in) against 1,670 mm (65.7 in), which gives a smaller turning radius of 5.6 m (18.4 ft) against 5.75 m (18.9 ft), and they have a heat pump. The cabin offers a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 27-inch head-up display and a 17.3-inch 3K touchscreen running the ADiGO operating system. All versions have ADiGO driver assistance, able to offer hands-on navigation assistance in urban and highway driving, using 27 sensors: one roof-mounted lidar, 3 millimetre-wave radars, 11 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
The range-extender uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged four of 154 hp (115 kW; 156 PS) and a rear motor of 309 hp (230 kW; 313 PS) and 396 N-m. The all-wheel-drive version adds a front induction motor of 174 hp (130 kW; 176 PS), bringing the total to 496 hp (370 kW; 503 PS) with 634 N-m (468 lb-ft) on tap. A 36.0 kWh LFP battery recharges from 30-80% in 15 minutes and gives a WLTP electric range of 180 km with rear drive and 170 km with all-wheel drive. The battery-electric S600 has an 800-volt platform, a rear motor of 335 hp (250 kW; 340 PS) and 430 N-m, and an 83.3 kWh LFP battery that also charges 30-80% in 15 minutes, with a CLTC range of 660 km (410 mi).
