BMW has revealed the new iX4, a fully electric coupe-style SUV and the latest model in its Neue Klasse range. BMW announced the car on 8 October. Two drive variants are due at launch in March 2027, and the range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive follows shortly after, orderable from January 2027.

Variants and performance

The iX4 50 xDrive has one electric motor on each axle, giving a combined 345 kW/469 hp and 645 Nm of torque. BMW says it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, tops out at 210 km/h and has a usable battery energy content of 108.7 kWh. Its range is up to 828 km on the WLTP cycle, and the company says ten minutes at the maximum charging rate of 400 kW adds enough energy for another 387 km.

The iX4 40 xDrive produces 275 kW/374 hp and 520 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds with a maximum range of up to 638 km. The top model, the iX4 M60 xDrive, delivers 450 kW/612 hp and 875 Nm, with an electronically limited top speed of 240 km/h. BMW gives it a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a range of up to 777 km. The company says all M60 figures are provisional, because binding WLTP values are not yet available.

Design and cabin

BMW describes a coupe-like silhouette built on a long wheelbase and short overhangs, with the Neue Klasse face at the front, where the kidney grille and twin headlights form a single graphic unit. The M60 adds M design elements, an M rear spoiler and M Yellow Lights. A panoramic sunroof is standard across the range. Customers can choose from nine exterior colours at launch, with three Frozen finishes added from March 2027, and seven interiors.

Inside, the car has a 17.9-inch central display, a 3D head-up display and a steering wheel with shy-tech controls. Mike Reichelt, BMW's head of Neue Klasse for the compact and midsize class, says the car adds an emotional model to the fully electric range. The standard hi-fi has seven speakers, while the M60 gets a Harman Kardon system with 13 speakers and 430 watts.

Technology and charging

The iX4 uses the new sixth-generation eDrive technology, with 800V architecture, cylindrical cells and bidirectional charging. BMW says its high-performance computer, which it calls Heart of Joy, runs ten times quicker than earlier systems. The company says the Motorway Assistant lets drivers go hands-free at speeds up to 130 km/h in numerous countries, including Germany, the UK, the USA and Japan, where it is expected by the end of 2026.
