The short answer

Alex Quinn, a test and development driver for Peugeot, gets a full-time race role in the WEC from 2027. Team principal Emmanuel Esnault cited Quinn's technical feedback, test commitment and on-track displays. Peugeot says he has supported the car's development this season and will drive the evolved 9X8 in 2027.

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies has promoted Alex Quinn from test and development driver to a race seat for 2027 in the FIA World Endurance Championship, under a new multi-year deal with the manufacturer. The 25-year-old British driver will race the Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar in significantly upgraded form next year. The team said Quinn has spent the current campaign supporting the car's development, both at the factory and in testing.

From karting to Hypercar testing

Quinn came up through karting and the junior single-seater ranks, earning rookie honours in British F4 and Formula Renault Eurocup before switching to endurance racing in 2023. That year he contested IMSA's LMP2 division with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports and took two rostrums from four starts. In 2024 he added the European Le Mans Series and made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing sixth in LMP2 for AO by TF. Last year he was again runner-up in the ELMS LMP2 Pro-Am standings, with victories at Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone.

Peugeot then invited him to test its Hypercar at the FIA WEC Rookie Test in Bahrain. He was later named a tester and developer for the French carmaker. Quinn, who works as a farmer day to day, is looking forward to a bigger part in the project as the 9X8 moves into its next stage.

Reaction from driver and team

Quinn called the chance to be an official driver with Peugeot a dream come true. He thanked the team for its support through the year, and said the step up to a full-time race seat was something he felt ready for after his recent results in other championships. He pointed to a 2026 season that included a class win at Daytona's Rolex 24, Pro/Am success in LMP2 at Le Mans, and the IMSA LMP2 title, which was decided on the final lap at Petit Le Mans.

Team principal Emmanuel Esnault praised Quinn's technical feedback, his commitment in test sessions and his on-track displays. He said Quinn's knowledge of the 9X8 made him a natural choice for the future, and that the team looks forward to racing with him next year in the evolved 9X8. Esnault added that Peugeot had now promoted a second young driver from the LMP2 ranks into a Hypercar race role.
